Chapter 10: "Grieving the Unseen Wounds" (When the Pain Others Can’t See Hurts the Most)

Chapter 10: "Grieving the Unseen Wounds" (When the Pain Others Can’t See Hurts the Most)

Quote: "Just because no one else can heal or do your inner work for you doesn’t mean you can, should, or need to do it alone." — Lisa Olivera

Verse: Jeremiah 30:17 (NIV)

"But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’ declares the Lord."

Anchored Truth

Not all wounds bleed. Not all scars are visible. But that doesn’t make them any less real—or any less worthy of healing.

Some of the deepest grief we carry is over the things no one else saw. The moments dismissed. The pain minimized. The cries that went unheard. This chapter is a sacred space to grieve what the world never gave us permission to mourn. And in doing so, we give that permission to others.

Glimpse of the Story:

I once sat quietly at a family dinner, smiling, laughing, appearing fine. But inside I was shattered. A few nights before, I had collapsed on the bathroom floor after another verbal explosion in my home—words sharp enough to pierce bone, but invisible to the outside world.

When I tried to share how deeply it hurt, I was told, "But he didn’t hit you." As if the absence of bruises meant the absence of pain. That moment broke something in me. Not just from the lack of understanding—but from the overwhelming shame of even needing someone to understand.

It took years to learn that just because no one saw it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. And just because others didn’t believe it, doesn’t mean it wasn’t real.

Prayer / Love Note:

God, Thank You for seeing what no one else saw. For hearing what no one else heard. For understanding the wounds I was told didn’t count.

Help me grieve fully without guilt. Help me heal what was buried so long ago I forgot it needed healing. Let me be a safe place—for myself, and for others—to feel without shame.

Stay alive. Don’t give up. You are needed. You are wanted. You are not alone. Keep going. I love you and I am there with you. Begin again. I love you always and forever.

Amen. Amen.

Reflection & Encouragement: Have you ever questioned your pain because others did? Have you minimized your own story because no one seemed to validate it?

Today, speak the truth of what happened. Even if it’s just to yourself. Let your heart say: "That was real. That hurt. And I deserve to heal."
