"The Ache of Being Too Much—and Not Enough" (Healing the Whiplash of Shame and Invisibility)
"The Ache of Being Too Much—and Not Enough" (Healing the Whiplash of Shame and Invisibility)
Quote: "You are not too much. You have never been too much. You were just in a world that was not ready for all that you are." — Unknown
Verse: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well." — Psalm 139:14
Anchored Truth:
Too much. Not enough. Those labels war inside a soul until we forget who we really are.
Many of us were raised to shrink—to be palatable, agreeable, easy to digest. We learned to overachieve just to feel worthy. To be pleasing just to feel safe. But in doing so, we lost the fullness of who we are.
You were never too much. And you were never not enough. You were simply surrounded by people who couldn’t hold what was sacred in you.
Glimpse of the Story:
As a young girl, I was always told I was “dramatic.” My emotions were “too much.” I began to hide them, ashamed of how deeply I felt.
Later, in relationships, I became the chameleon—reading the room, adjusting who I was to avoid conflict. I thought I was surviving. But I was disappearing.
Until the day I looked in the mirror and saw a stranger. That was the day I began to reclaim myself.
Prayer / Love Note:
God, Thank You for crafting me with intention. For every part of me that was called "too much"—let it be seen as a gift.
Help me no longer shrink to fit the comfort of others. Help me expand into the fullness of who I am, fearfully and wonderfully made.
Stay alive. Don’t give up. You are needed. You are wanted. You are not alone. Keep going. I love you and I am there with you. Begin again. I love you always and forever.
Amen.
Reflection & Encouragement:
Write a letter to the parts of yourself you’ve silenced. The laugh you muted. The tears you swallowed. The dreams you shelved.
Tell them it’s safe to come back now. Tell them you’ll protect them this time.
