Chapter 18: The Breaking Point — The Moment I Couldn’t Pretend Anymore

(When silence became too costly.)

Quote:
“You can only lie to yourself for so long before your soul starts screaming the truth.” — Anonymous

Verse:
“Even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.”
— Psalm 139:12 (NIV)

Anchored Truth (Essence Mindset)

There comes a moment in every cycle breaker’s life when silence is no longer survival—but suffocation. When pretending becomes more dangerous than telling the truth. When hiding becomes a slow spiritual death.

This moment is sacred. Because it’s not weakness that brings you to your breaking point—it’s love. Love for yourself. Love for the life you haven’t yet lived. Love for the people you don’t want to lose to the same lies that almost took you.

Pretending protects for a while. But it also postpones the healing that’s waiting on the other side of the truth.

And when the mask finally cracks, what comes pouring out is not failure—it’s freedom.

Glimpse of the Story

I remember standing in the mirror one day, putting on my face like I always did—the polite one, the hopeful one, the smile that made everyone else comfortable.

But that day, my hands shook.
Something inside whispered, “I can’t do this anymore.”

I had become an expert in pretending. Pretending I wasn’t breaking. Pretending I didn’t miss my children so badly I could barely breathe. Pretending I didn’t feel like disappearing just to stop the ache.

But the truth was: pretending was killing me.

One night, my older son looked at me with tear-filled eyes and said, “You can’t do that to me, Ma. You can’t leave me.”

I had told him I was sorry for being so sad… sorry for losing my strength… and he said, “I’d come home and you’d be gone. That would destroy me.”

That moment shattered me.

And it wasn’t the only time.

That same aching plea—the unspoken “please don’t go”—echoed through my life more times than I can count. From my other children. From my mother. From those who truly saw me unraveling, who held their breath with me in the silence, wondering if today might be the day I disappeared for good.

I, too, have held my breath for others. I’ve seen the quiet desperation in the eyes of those I loved and thought, “Please stay. Please don’t let this be the end of you.”

Those moments… they anchored me. They may have saved my life—again and again.

This would be my breaking point.
Though many had come and gone before… this one felt like the turning.

Not the end of me—
but the beginning of my choice to live.

Because staying—even when I didn’t know how to smile anymore—
was the loudest love letter I could write to my children. And in my weakness, I found the most sacred strength I’d ever known.

Prayer / Love Note

God,
Thank You for meeting me at the end of my pretending.
For seeing past the mask and loving the truth I tried so hard to hide.

Give me the strength to stop performing.
To grieve honestly.
To be broken without shame.
And to know that You don’t require perfection—just permission to love me as I am.

Help me choose to stay. To speak. To heal.
Even when it’s hard. Even when it hurts.
Because I’m not here just to survive anymore—
I’m here to live.

And when I forget, remind me:

Stay alive. Don’t give up. You are needed. You are wanted. You are not alone. Keep going. I love you and I am there with you. Begin again. I love you always and forever.

Amen.

Reflection & Encouragement

What parts of you have been pretending just to survive?

What truth have you swallowed so long it’s begun to ache in your body?

Your breaking point is not your failure—it is your soul’s cry for freedom.

Let this be the day you breathe.

You don’t need to pretend anymore.
You’re allowed to be real.
You’re allowed to heal.

You’re allowed to come home to yourself.
