I Don’t Want Happiness Anymore chapter 7: I Want Peace
Quote:
"Happiness is fleeting. Peace is sacred." — Anonymous
Verse:
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you." — Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
Anchored Truth (Essence Mindset)
There comes a point in your healing where the pursuit of happiness begins to feel hollow. Not because joy isn’t beautiful, but because it was often a mask—a survival strategy to make others comfortable, to prove you were okay.
But peace? Peace is different.
Peace is not performative. It doesn’t require a smile or a social media caption. It doesn’t beg for approval. Peace comes from presence. From letting go. From honoring truth over appearances.
For a long time, I chased happiness like it was a destination. I thought if I could laugh enough, succeed enough, love enough, I’d finally be whole. But happiness, in the way I understood it, was tied to conditions—to others, to outcomes, to everything outside of me.
Eventually, I got tired. Not just physically, but soul-deep weary.
And that’s when I stopped chasing. That’s when I found peace.
Glimpse of the Story:
There was a moment, standing in the mirror after another long cry, when I looked at myself and whispered, "I don’t want to be happy anymore. I just want to be at peace."
It shocked me. I had never said it out loud.
But I meant it. I was tired of smiling when I wanted to scream. Tired of laughing when I was grieving. Tired of pretending I was okay so others wouldn’t feel uncomfortable.
That whisper became a vow.
From that day forward, I let go of the performance. I began to feel my sadness without shame. I gave myself permission to rest. I started asking myself what I needed instead of what others expected of me.
I stopped trying to look healed and started learning how to actually heal.
And in that space—quiet, raw, unglamorous—I found peace. Not a perfect life, not a constant smile, but an anchored soul.
Prayer / Love Note:
God,
I release my obsession with happiness.
I surrender the exhausting need to appear okay.
I ask for something deeper, something steadier.
Give me peace.
The kind that doesn’t shake with the winds of life.
The kind that stays, even when joy feels distant.
Let me be okay without the mask.
Let me be whole without the applause.
Let peace be my compass.
Let it be my home.
And when the world pulls at me to perform again,
remind me:
Stay alive. Don’t give up. You are needed. You are wanted. You are not alone. Keep going. I love you and I am there with you. Begin again. I love you always and forever.
Amen.
Reflection & Encouragement:
Are you tired of chasing happiness?
Do you feel like you’ve been performing instead of living?
What would it look like to stop?
To pause?
To let peace find you?
Today, give yourself permission to feel without editing.
To rest without guilt.
To be human, without apology.
Happiness may come and go.
But peace?
Peace is your birthright.
Peace is your anchor.
Peace is your home.
