Chapter 21 "This Is What Rebirth Sounds Like"
The permission to be fully human, and still holy.
Quote:
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." — Anaïs Nin
Verse:
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?"
— Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
Anchored Truth: The Sound of Rebirth Is a Sacred Cry
Rebirth is not always a glorious burst of light. Sometimes, it is a silent wail in the middle of the night. Sometimes, it is the breaking of a dam, the trembling of knees finally free to collapse. Rebirth often begins in darkness—not because you are lost, but because you are buried. And what is buried can bloom.
To be fully human is to grieve, to rage, to tremble, to question, and still be held as holy. The Creator never demanded perfection—He invites presence. The sound of your healing is not always a hymn. Sometimes it is a roar. Sometimes it is a whisper. Sometimes it is the first breath after holding it for years.
This is what rebirth sounds like.
Reflection: The Threshold Between Who I Was and Who I Am
There was a moment I couldn’t quite explain—a soul cry. It wasn’t spoken aloud, but my entire being shouted, Enough!
Enough with suppressing the grief. Enough with smiling through the storm. Enough with pretending I wasn’t drowning. I had lived so long wrapped in the idea that healing meant hiding. But real healing started when I let myself unravel.
In the silence, I began to hear myself again—not the version others told me to be, but the one who had survived it all. And more than that, the one who was finally ready to live.
I used to chase happiness. But now, I choose peace.
I used to strive for answers. But now, I rest in Presence.
I used to beg for love. But now, I am love.
Rebirth didn’t come easy. But it came holy.
A Glimpse of the Story: The Fire That Found Me
It was during one of my darkest seasons—after years of silence, suppression, and soul exhaustion—that I found myself sitting alone after a long night of crying. I felt completely stripped. Alone. Empty.
But something changed that night.
I stopped begging for answers and simply asked to be seen. I whispered to God, “If You’re still here, if You still see me, please just hold me.”
No angels appeared. No booming voice responded. But I felt a warmth, like light from within the rubble of myself. I wasn’t being punished. I was being renewed.
It wasn’t dramatic. It was simple. But it was everything.
I didn’t just survive that night. I was reborn by it.
Practice / Invitation: Honor the Sound of Your Own Becoming
Rebirth doesn’t have to be loud to be real. Today, give yourself space to hear what your soul has been trying to say.
-
What has been aching to rise within you?
-
What part of you has been buried that is now ready to bloom?
-
Can you name the sound of your rebirth? A word, a color, a feeling?
Write it down. Speak it aloud. Dance it out. Cry it through.
Whatever it is—let it be holy.
Love Note / Prayer
God,
Thank You for meeting me in the fire, not to burn me, but to refine me. Thank You for stripping away what was never mine to carry, for revealing what You always saw in me.
Help me embrace the fullness of who I am—not just the light, but the shadow too. Let me not fear my becoming, but celebrate it. Give me the courage to rise, again and again, knowing that every breaking has birthed something sacred.
Let my story be a song of hope. Let my life be proof that rebirth is real.
And if ever I forget, whisper to me:
Stay alive. Don’t give up. You are needed. You are wanted. You are not alone. Keep going. I love you and I am there with you. Begin again. I love you always and forever.
Amen.
