Preface: Pieces of Her — Death to Life
Trigger Warning: This series contains sensitive content regarding abuse and trauma.
This is not a story of polished survival.
It is a story of encounters of the soul—the kind that shattered me into pieces.
I was someone’s daughter.
I am someone’s mother.
I am still someone's sister.
And now, I want to be a safe place.
I didn’t always know which way to go. I was young. I was broken. I was isolated.
And what I lived through—what I survived—was confusing.
It didn’t always come with bruises. Sometimes it came with silence.
With twisted words. With threats no one else heard.
With knees pressing into a belly. With a laugh that followed terror.
With “I was just playing” echoing after the damage was done.
There was a time I talked myself into and out of seeing it.
I told myself I was overreacting.
I tried to make excuses for him.
I tried to make it make sense.
But this story isn’t just mine anymore.
It belongs to every woman or soul out there who has felt what I felt—but couldn’t name it.
Who stayed too long because they didn’t know they were allowed to leave.
Who thought, “Maybe it’s my fault…”
Who feared telling the truth might kill them—but staying was killing them slowly.
So I will not sugarcoat it.
Because there was nothing sweet about the death of my light.
This series is for the one person who needs to read it before it’s too late.
To recognize the signs.
To realize they’re not overreacting.
To remember who they were before the breaking began—and who they still are beneath it all.
If you're reading this, please take care of your heart.
These pages hold pain, but they also hold a lifeline.
I may not be able to save the world.
But if my words can help even one person wake up,
To see clearly.
To choose life.
To feel less alone—
Then I have done what I was born to do.
This is Pieces of Her: Death to Life.
A legacy of truth.
A light I leave on—just in case someone out there is still trying to find the door.
You are not alone.
And you are so deeply loved.
Author Insight
I’ve stayed silent for so long—out of fear and confusion. Fear of speaking the forbidden truths that hide behind closed doors and perfect family photos. Fear of being called a liar, a troublemaker, or accused of having a victim mindset. But silence didn’t protect me. It only buried me deeper.
The thing about being stripped of everything—your dignity, your voice, your sense of worth—is that eventually, you stop fearing loss. Because there’s nothing left to lose. And in that emptiness, something else begins: forgiveness, learning, healing, and the slow, aching process of moving forward.
I’ve chosen to go one step further. To leave the light on.
Not for vengeance. Not for chaos. But for healing. For redemption. For direction.
I’m tired of pretending that what hurt didn’t hurt. Tired of acting like what’s still hurting isn’t happening. I refuse to hide anymore.
You can take my body. You can take my life.
But you cannot take my soul.
You cannot silence my story.
Prayer:
Dear God,
Let my breath remind me of the life still flowing through me.
Let this heartbeat remind me: I survived.
Though the pain was real, and the memories sharp,
I am not in that place anymore.
Help me speak gently to my body when it trembles.
Let me wrap it in kindness, not shame.
Let me hold it like the brave home it has always been.
I release what no longer belongs in me.
The fear. The silence. The shame.
I reclaim what is mine:
My peace. My light. My right to feel whole again.
I am safe now.
I am free now.
I am coming home—to myself.
Amen.
