Breaking the cycle pt1: To the Daughter Who Finally Said No More

To the Daughter Who Finally Said No More

My love,

You are not selfish for needing space.
You are not rebellious for wanting peace.
You are not dishonoring your parents by refusing to be mistreated.

You are a daughter of dignity.
A woman of worth.
A soul who still serves, still loves, and still tries, even when she’s exhausted and wounded.

You stood between pain and your sister once.
Now, you are standing between pain and yourself.
That is not rebellion. That is redemption.

You are not confused—your soul is clear.
You are just grieving the truth: that some of the people you love most refuse to meet you in respect, and instead, twist your boundaries into betrayal.

But don’t let their discomfort keep you from walking in truth.

Even Jesus said “If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake the dust off your feet…” (Matthew 10:14).
You are allowed to leave the room.
You are allowed to stop participating in the cycle.
You are allowed to name dysfunction as dysfunction, even when others pretend it's faith.

You don’t have to live small to make others comfortable.
You don’t have to accept dishonor to be loving.

You, my love, are free.
You are healing.
You are allowed to protect the peace you never had growing up.
You are allowed to love from a distance.
You are allowed to be whole — even if it makes others uncomfortable.

You are doing the holy work of breaking generational chains.
That’s why it hurts so much.

But you are not alone.

And you are not going back.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” — Deuteronomy 31:6

Journal Reflections: When Standing Up Feels Like Breaking Down

When I was 16, I stood in front of my father to protect my sister. He had already broken us down with his words and hands too many times. That day, I couldn’t let him go through her to make his point. So I stood up. I became the wall. The rebel. The troublemaker.

And that label followed me for years.

It was easier for him to call me the problem than to face the problem in himself. My mom—God bless her heart—tried so many times to protect us. But survival wore her down. The cycle of leaving, returning, hoping he had changed, became our rhythm. I carried guilt, shame, confusion—and an aching desire to be seen as good. As worthy.

Now, as I am another year older, I look back and see it clearer.

That wasn’t rebellion. It was rescue.

That wasn’t violence. It was protection.

That wasn’t being dramatic. It was being brave.

Years later.......Never changing. He found something wrong with everything. Again.

And My mother—the one I love so deeply—slipped into old patterns, defending him, silencing me. Suddenly I was the problem again. The one causing strife. The one who needed to be “taught a lesson.”

No.

Not this time.

I am tired. Bone-deep tired. But I’m not stuck.

I will not allow spiritual manipulation to convince me that God wants me to be spit on and serve quietly. That is not humility—that is erasure. That is not righteousness—that is oppression dressed in religious language.

I am learning, slowly and painfully, that respect is not rebellion. That setting boundaries does not make me dishonoring. That my voice matters. My needs matter. I matter.

So now, I don’t respond the same. I don’t crumble the same. I don’t let the old dynamics hold me hostage.

It hurts, yes. But it is holy.

If you are walking through this too—trying to help, love, and serve while being overlooked, disrespected, or erased—I want you to hear this:

You are allowed to expect kindness. You are allowed to protect your heart. You are allowed to be well, even in a place that once broke you.

You are not rebellious. You are awakening. You are not alone. You are not going back.

This is the beginning of your healing. Let it rise.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." — Psalm 34:18
